Owen’s Rock Climb
Owen is ready to take his climbing from the gym to the crag. But climbing outdoors means that not everything is predictable. Owen has to learn to trust not only his belayer, but also himself. Come alongside Owen as he learns!
This book is for the young budding rock climber, and/or their rock climbing parents! The book follows Owen as he prepares gear, food, and water for the next day of climbing with his parents. The reader follows Owen to the crag where he goes through the necessary safety checks, works through a challenging route, and then conquers fear as he is being lowered back down to the ground by utilizing a basic somatic strategy for nervous system regulation (grounding). And don't forget about Owen's goofy dog, who could care less about climbing, and only cares about chasing his stick! The book includes numerous climbing terminology that is bolded in the text along with a glossary at the end of the book for reference. The book also highlights the benefits of recreating in nature, and appreciating one’s “own backyard”, if you are privileged to live in or near green spaces.
